What can I do for New Years Eve in San Francisco?

Asked by mowens (8403points) November 16th, 2009

My best friend and I are going to go to San Francisco for New Years Eve. He lives in Sacramento, and I in Ohio.

Where is a good place to be?

We are both gay, but… we don’t necessarily like the gay scene… if that makes any sense. We are mainly just a fan of good drinks and good people, and a lot of fun.

We are in our mid 20’s

You could do what I do lately, watch the ball go down in NYC on TV and then fall asleep—which means I am out by 11:15 my time, since I live in Memphis. LOL. Maybe Domonicx will know…he lives in San Fran, although he is only 19, but he is gay also, he might know the places to be.

@JLeslie Actually, I’m 18. I’ll be 19 next August.

haha…you guys…

As for the question, it’s hard to say because I usually just go to private parties on New Years Eve at my friends’ houses and we’ve also gone to the Embarcadero to see the fireworks. I’ve pretty much been doing that forever. There’s always just a lot of stuff going on in the streets around that area. You can’t go wrong with downtown.

It depends on what you want to do; there are all kinds of things going on at various clubs and hotels, like the gala at the Ritz Carlton. Since I’m not a “clubber”, I wouldn’t really know anything about which one is the best one to go to. There’s also this thing called Streets of San Francisco going on at the Fort Mason Center, and the New Years Eve Ball at the Westin. All these things require tickets and are probably not too cheap, though. My parents have been to various balls on New Years Eve here.

There are a lot of websites dedicated to showing events that go on for New Years Eve in San Francisco and I’m sure they’ll be continuously updated as December 31st draws nearer.

Like, I remember this website from last year: http://www.sfstation.com/nye/ but it’s still displaying things from last year. The Fireworks Soiree listed there was the kind of thing I would go to.

You are the man!
We are not much of clubbers either. But, if we can be with other gay guys, i guess thats cool. Last year we spent New Years in Dayton, Ohio.

Don’t ever go to Dayton, Ohio. I had fun… but, it’s Dayton. Columbus is actually pretty awesome. The perfect sized city in my opinion.

What would you do if you didn’t have a private party to go to?

I don’t know, there are just so many options, not to mention the lists for 2009 don’t seem to be out yet. It’s too hard to know what I would do at this point. I definitely would see the fireworks, so if there was some kind of event going on around there, I would go to it. I’m all about the dancing and the food for me. I’m going to be in SF for New Years this year as well, but I’m still not sure what I’m going to do. I’ll definitely be with my boyfriend, though.

Last year for New Years, I went to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and celebrated it there with my friends. So it varies for me…lol

I won’t be in the City this year, but if I was I’d probably end up bar hopping at 16th between Mission and Valencia as usual.
