A lot of places aren’t advertising their vacancies at the moment, so I suggest taking a CV and cover letter (stating that you’d like part-time work) to the places you’d like work.

What sort of work are you looking for?

Just general part time work while I’m in college so bar work, shop assistant, etc.

Yeah the best way to go about it is the old fashioned way. Visiting all the shops, bars, cafes, etc in your area, armed with a CV + cover letter. While you’re there (for a better chance of success) you might want to ask a bunch of questions about the company/job just to look more interested. That might not be necessary for part-time work though…

Volume. Go everywhere, get resumes out everywhere. Go to 20 to 40 places a day.
Dress: Dress like you are ready to go to work.
Don’t bring anyone with you!
Cover any tattoos
Wear clean shoes, clean well fitting clothes, and take a shower.
Remove any facial piercings
Treat it with the same seriousness you would a full time job.
Remember, going to work for someone is selling a product. You are selling your time. Wasting your time on the job is the same as stealing. When you’re at work your time belongs to your boss. When you are off work your time belongs to you.

If you can’t find a part time job try looking on Craigslist under volunteers to be a paid volunteer for psych/medical experiments and studies. You get paid well, its not taxed and most don’t take very much long

A lot of places will hire college students part-time with no experience, so think about other types of work. Most people want to be in the front of the store or work as a bartender, and don’t think about taking jobs as a busperson or in the stock room. You might also be able to find part-time office jobs, like being an administrative assistant, you could work as a bike messenger, a delivery guy if you have a car, a janitor, a tutor, or babysitter. There are all kinds of jobs out there for students if you think outside the box.

Does your college have a student employment office or jobs bank? Mine had a babysitting service and jobs lists.

To repeat @Judi When you look for a job, you are trying to sell yourself so present yourself in the very best light at all times.
