Oldies song that is called "Because" that is not by the Beatles?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7991points) December 14th, 2009 from IM

It’s driving me crazy. I only know the first word, “Because”. For the musicians, it starts on an A and goes to a B using two eigth notes.

How old? There is a genuine antique called “Because” that used to be a sentimental favorite at weddings. That old?

Old like, sixties. And no, not that one. I’ve checked to make sure.

G’day troubleinharlem,

Thanks for your question.

According to Wikipedia, there is a song called “Because” dating from 1902. Perry Como had a big hit with it in the 1940s and other standards and opera singers have done versions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Because_(1902_song)

Well… The only songs I know that are called “Because” are The Beatles and Afroman’s “Because I Got High”, but have you considered Elliott Smith’s cover of The Beatles?

There is a song called “Because” that was very popular for weddings back in the 60s and 70s. I would imagine the sheet music would be easy to find.
