Do you stock up on condiments when you go to a restaurant/fast food place ?

Asked by Pretty_Lilly (4660points) January 2nd, 2010

Are you one of the those people who stocks up on their Nutra-Sweet,mustard,ketchup and mayo packets every time you’re at a restaurant.
Yesterday,I ran out of ketchup,I looked in the junk drawer and found over 50 packets I had pilfered in the last 6 months.

Yes, especially whenever I go to Taco Bell or any place that has hot sauce. Then I get all the hot sauce I was generously given to and add them to my instant noodles.

No. I hate when those little packets fall out of my refrigerator when I open the door…I have enough of the standard size condiments, I don’t need to stock up on the little ones….

I never do that, and I think it’s because I remember shriveling in embarrassment when I was 13 or so, and my dad used to ask his waiter for a doggy bag to take the dinner rolls home. I don’t think I understood then what the Great Depression had done to people.

Sure do haven’t had to buy sugar and straws in a very long time

@pdworkin I recall one of my teachers told me a story of when they were 9 years old, they used the bathroom, used a very generous amount of toilet paper, their mother went in the trash and picked out the unused parts of the paper, save it for future use and gave him a lecture on wasting TP !!

i may take a few sweet n’lows for the pocketbook – they’re good to have in case of emergency. other than that, no, i buy my own bulk sized box of sweet n’low for home, and my own ketchup and other things for home, too. also for the car, i may take a fork or a spoon, or if i am given those things and don’t use them i will keep them because i hate waste.

in a restaurant, when they give extra napkins (the big, good ones) if i don’t use them i will take them, because they’re going to be thrown out anyway, and again, i hate waste.

Jeez no! I buy my condiments at the pharmacy. I’m not accustomed to engaging in sex in fast food establishments anyway.

No, I don’t do that any more. When I was a kid and we lived on welfare, Mom had to do that. I make my own money now.

Although, if I am given more in my bag than I can use, I do save them. What am I going to do, go back through the drive-through and return the extras?

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

I will grab honey packets wherever and whenever I can get them. Always.

dutchbrossis's avatar

Sometimes mainly from Del Taco because if I don’t I will forget to order them the next time and would rather not get home and realize I don’t have any. So I try to make sure I always have what I need at home.

JessicaisinLove's avatar

No I don’t, I take what I believe I’ll actually use. Used to know someone who did that.
The person was a thief anyway. He and his wife would go to Taco Bell and
load up on the hot sauce then take it home and empty the packets into a jar.
They could afford to buy their own…............think they enjoyed stuff like that just to get away with something. Like everything else they did. Liars, thieves and abusers.

Berserker's avatar

Nah…but when I go to the convenience store, I usually shamelessly pilfer a whole buncha sugar packets and coffee creamers, because at home I’m always running outta coffee elements.

rooeytoo's avatar

I think they should do away with all those individual packets, they create so much waste and it is silly little things like this that added together make our carbon footprint so huge!
Why can’t there just be a reusable glassl bottle of ketchup on the table that is filled each night from a huge container like they did in the “good old days.” ; – )

JustPlainBarb's avatar

No, I have enough of that stuff at home. I don’t need to take it for free.

knitfroggy's avatar

No, I don’t. I ask for sauce at Taco Bell but I don’t ask for ketchup packets at McDonalds or anywhere. We usually never eat in at that type of place. I just use my own ketchup at home. My grandma has packets of hot sauce and ketchup that are so old the logos at the resturant has changed.

casheroo's avatar

@rooeytoo because people would apparently steal them too.

No. I’ve never done such a thing. It’s stealing from a restaurant, IMO. That comes out of their food cost.

rooeytoo's avatar

@casheroo – it’s a sad commentary on how the morals of people have deteriorated over the years. There used to be sugar, salt, pepper, ketchup on every table in a restaurant. Now everything has to be steal proof. Adds a fortune to the cost of everything in packaging. The ripples just keep going out further and further.

jeez I sound like my grandparents, heheheh!

jca's avatar

@rooeytoo : i agree with you about the ketchup bottles on tables, but that would not help the drive-thru.

rooeytoo's avatar

@jca – drive thru places asked what you wanted on your burger or whatever and it came to you ready to eat.

stratman37's avatar

Not condiments, but I WILL snag a couple of extra McDonald’s straws now. They have a larger diameter and help me suck down my favorite beverage so much quicker!

scotsbloke's avatar

Yes indeedy, they are handy for keeping in the motorhome.
Salt, pepper, sugar, sauces, napkins, straws, I pay enough for the crappy food that these are well paid for!

I used to buy a box of the sugar from the cash and carry but dont gotta do that now.
