Why would you want a fresh start? How would you do it?

Asked by wunday (759points) January 21st, 2010

We all have our own current situations, so the answer should depend on those circumstances. What, in your current situation would make you want a fresh start? What would you have to do to get that fresh start?

I am particularly interested if it is a personality change you are trying to make happen. Maybe a different outlook on life. Maybe a new way of seeing yourself? Maybe just a hope or intention, but you have no idea if you can do it.

If I could redo all of school, all the way back to preschool, i would. I might not be as much of the procrastinating butt i am today.

I am in the process of trying to become more compassionate and cutting back on my rather fiery temper. The goal would be so much easier if I could get a fresh start on a deserted island…or exchange half of my personality with a shy someone else’s. Both options would give me a more advantageous starting position.

I’m on my way to yet another fresh start. I’m tired of it. I think this is my 4th or 5th time. I’m done with starting over. This is the end of the starting line for me.

My fresh start is that im joining the Coast Guard. I seek to have a meaningful job and to excel and move up in ranks while in the process making me a better and more responsible person overall and seeing different parts of the country/world. Im all about life experiences.

Lately I’ve been feeling pretty ungrateful and selfish, so in order to change that I’ve decided I’m going to change my mindset. I want to be a person who always remembers her blessings and tries everyday to offer gratitude for them. I also want to be humble and not judge people. I feel like I’ve been doing that a lot lately. So starting this week I am going to change that.
And I wish the best for everyone else who is trying a fresh start. We can do this! :)

@Middle_Class_American Do you like working with your hands? Like using tools or driving cars… flying helicopters? Just curious.

To answer the question, I am currently rethinking my career direction.

I’ve lived at over 30 different addresses in my life, had four different careers ( not including temporary jobs ), and am now in a place I love, with a woman I love. Answer your question? : D

I’d probably need to move to another city/state/country/galaxy/universe.

@lilikoi Yes I love physical labor. I think of it as putting thought into action. To the people that can sit down and crunch numbers and what not all day I say good for you, but my thing is physical work, fixing, moving, building, etc..

@Middle_Class_American You sound just like me… What did you do before the Coast Guard?

Ive often thought about packing up my car and driving till I ran out of gas. Then starting over, right there.

@Ailia Good for you! :-) Everyone is capable of change I believe. It can be very tough at times though. you just have to be able to recognize when you feel yourself slipping off the path of change to prevent yourself from landing back to old ways.

”....prevent yourself from landing back to old ways.” You just gave me an epiphany @Middle_Class_American. I was a military brat and my parents were divorced and I was jumbled around like a hot potato. I’m just continuing my past, but I have being saying this is the last time and I hope it is. I’m tired of moving.

@lilikoi I worked in masonry for my uncle for a few years kinda off and on and I am currently working in a warehouse for a Medical Supply//Homecare company pretty much just cleaning fixing testing. Im 19 by the way.

I don’t know that I want a fresh start so much as the ability to redo some things in my life… like, I really like the people I’m around right now, but I don’t like the person I’ve become around them. So yes, for me, a personality change.
My fresh start is… hm.. I want to put the spilt milk back into the glass with a few added drops of chocolate I don’t want a whole new one…

I just feel stuck here since everyone here has known me for so long, that I don’t feel I can makes choices I’d like to without causing distress. It would be nice to go somewhere where my every move isn’t scrutinized.

Get rid of credit card debt! I need to live within my means or even better below my means.
I have put forth a goal to pay if off by a set date, payment plans/budget is now in place, and I now only use cash so I only spend what I have.

Using cash would be so great. I’m helping two daughters through school on my homeowner’s readiline so cash is just a dream! Off topic, sorry.

I’m finishing my last level of education, fix my visa and fly to another place. That would give me a fresh start. New people, new opportunities, and a new car.

Moving on to another city. If i could go to Venus i would.

well i’ve had my dose fresh start summer last year. 3 days after my highschool graduation, i packed my luggages and moved to another city and never came back. well, i do came back but you know, just for the occasional vacation and stuff. and it felt good to be in an entirely new place in which i knew NO ONE. its like, being given a second shot at life, if you know what i mean. and right about now, everything is going exactly the way i want things to be.
