Is 11" x 17" the standard poster size/ most common?

I just bought a True Blood poster, and it was 11” x 17”. I have bought posters from Zellers, and HMV and stuff, is this the same size as the average poster or smaller?

11“x17” is actually a tabloid size paper, not a poster size.
18” x 24” is a good size for a poster

If you get a tabloid and open it that’s how big it’s going to be. Another way to figure out this size is to take to 2 pieces of 8.5 X 11 (regular home printer paper) and put them side by side.
