Asked by JesusWasAJewbot (1510points) January 26th, 2010

Not sure if its just my body or im missing these places in the shower but since a teenager ive gotten body acne usually on my back or parts of my arm. Getting older now and its starting to bother me. Are there special soaps or something i can get to combat this?

you should get a skin professional take a look at your skin and make a determination, preferrably a dermatologist

@deni Seconded. I used to get little breakouts on my chest and upper back. This stuff cleared it up pronto.

Also, if you have long hair make sure you rinse your upper back after rinsing your conditioner.

@Likeradar Yeah, it does wonders! and even if you arent breaking out, it makes you all smooth n stuff :)

Any product that contains at least 2% Salicylic acid will really make a huge difference and the pads or cleansers are really easy to use. This is present in a lot of the Neutrogena acne-fighting products.

If that doesn’t make a dent, see the derm and they can suggest something else.

Avoid using a body scrub. Exfoliation can irritate inflammatory acne (the most common kind) and make it worse. Acne is not caused by dirt and is not a sign that you haven’t been washing properly. Washing too often, too vigorously and with strong cleansers can all make it worse. When you dry your skin, pat it dry as rubbing can also exacerbate acne.

The number one tip for dealing with acne is this – go and get medical help. Acne is a disease that can be caused by a great many number of things. It can leave disfiguring scars if not treated quickly enough and can make you very self conscious about your image. On the bright side it can be treated very successfully and the sooner you get help the sooner you will be free of it. (I spent 20 years battling with acne on my face and body and one of my only regrets in life is not getting it treated properly, sooner)
