Too many possibilities without any more description. Is it more or less than normal? Is any normal? It could be kidney related among a heap of other things. If it was a test that your doctor ordered, tell him/her. OF course, if you have randomly taken this test, the doctor probably won’t care. The better question here would be, “Are nitrates in my urine good, bad, or meaningless?”

Nitrates are good. Nitrites are bad and mean you may have a UTI. I forget where I heard taht

thanks, will continue to seek answers…...guess I should drink more water.

Honestly, though, what made you test for this? Did a doctor ask you to do it or did you just do it for no reason or what?

I had a small surgery this AM and it was part of the admitting process. Radom checking. They told me to drink more water…......

Well, if the doctor says drink more water, then drink some more water. Maybe you had a bit higher nitrate level than normal and the increased consumption of water dilutes it. Also, if all the doctor tells you to do is to drink more water, then this shouldn’t be anything to be necessarily worried about.

Yep, won’t worry about it and drink more water. I will have it checked in a couple of weeks again to see what’s up. Usually, I think, it’s associated with an urinary tract infection, but I have no symptoms. Just something else to wonder about.
