Anyone know InDesign?

Asked by crazyzo2000 (296points) March 24th, 2010

I’m trying to format several artists statement documents at work, and I need to insert a solid black line between two sections of writing. Anyone know an easy way to do this? So far i have just hand drawn a line with the line tool. I mean, it’s pretty easy doing it that way, but I wasn’t sure if there’s a way to automatically insert a line.

Thank You!

Make a paragraph style with a bottom border, distance from text, thickness etc can all be set when making the style. Base the style on your present style and go back to your present style for the last para.

Is that in the same make a paragraph style menu that pops up where you can edit basic paragraph styles, etc? I’m not sure where to find the bottom border option…

If you have to do this for each artist, then I would definitely go with what @anartist said. This way anytime you move text around, the lines follow. Paragraph, Character and Object Styles should always be your best friends when working with InDesign.

@/crazyzo2000 Are you using paragraph styles at all? Different from just using the “paragraph” and “character” toolboxes? Does your document have a set of styles for its elements?

Yes, I am using paragraph styles. I have one set up for my bold header, body text, etc. And then I can edit paragraph style options. I have that part so far I think. Just not sure how to do the solid line

edit your present paragraph style for artists’ bios and when you get the menu box Paragraph Style Options, click on underline and put in your specifics.

OOPS —keep your present style—this should be a new style based on your present style. You need to keep your present style for last para

Okiee, the only thing is, It underlines every line of my paragraph, instead of just the bottom line.

OOPS sorry well let me check again—I didn’t check and need to refresh myself

Oh I’m so sorry it was called “paragraph rules”
Is my face red.

Either do Paragraph Rules on the last paragraph, or put Paragraph Rules above the “bold header” style.
