What's up with the BNP only needing a swing in the vote of 3.8% to get over 100 councillors stationed all over the country!

Asked by TheOnlyException (2182points) April 9th, 2010

In five weeks’ time the BNP could take control of its first council and have a hundred new councillors across the country. Nick Griffin could become an MP with a swing of just 3.8%.

Why the sudden rise in popularity of this clearly racist party?

What do you think the reasons are for them becoming more popular, not necessarily that people are more racist.
Maybe the recession has made people desperate for jobs that the BNP say ‘foreigners’ have stolen?
I don’t know. Any insight?
This news has honestly shocked and disturbed me.

My own father is more qualified than that fat bastard running this bigoted party, to think that if they ever came into power ever, that they would make him leave the country he worked years to gain citizenship to really disgusts me.

It’s days like these that make me ashamed to call myself British.
Wonder what France is like this time of year…

Economic crises usually drive people to extremist groups and parties.

….... Is that true? I’m really getting tired of this sodding little country! Basically I put it down to excessive & irresponsible reporting by the media of Immigration & Asylum which has blurred peoples understanding. Government ineptitude in tackling this. & the fact that most British people are still fundamentally racist to start with…... & quite thick.

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader That is sadly true. Especially about the ignorant Britons. I was watching a documentary about MPs living on council estates for 8 days a while back and they came across this one prat, in a sweaty vest top and nike sweat pants scratching his own arse. They asked him about his political views he said
“I vote BNP ain’t I… yer.. its not cos im like im not like against coloureds, they took our jobs in’t they? so i vote BNP innit”

man couldn’t even speak the damn language and thought he was entitled to a job when he probably couldn’t even pass his damn GCSEs and sat at home all day in his own filth doing fuck all to get himself a job.
Really winds me up that my dad who worked his way up to a PhD in Chemistry and contributed greatly to this society would be ‘repatriated’

I live in the US so I’m not that familiar with UK government issues, but aren’t there certain rights guaranteed to all non-criminal British citizens, regardless of whether they were born there or were naturalized?

If there are, perhaps the worst that the BNP could do is to freeze immigration.

TheOnlyException's avatar

@Brian1946 Yes that what I wondered. But if our government can let a party that openly supports Nazi views and practices and makes racist comments galore to exist, DESPITE OUR DEFINITE RACE LAWS, then I worry that the BNP will find a way to get around these rights to all non-criminal British citizens.

Recently the BNP evaded another near miss indictment by making their party open to people of ALL races. (rather than just caucasian people), as they know full well no self-respecting ‘ethnic’ person would join.
bloody loopholes…

sneaky bastards.

JeffVader's avatar

@TheOnlyException I remember that being on…. & must say, that comes as no surprise at all. Did you see the other programme on BBC about unemployed Brits being given the chance to do the jobs that migrants normally do. If memory serves all but 3 of them quit before even getting paid, & none of them were as punctual or efficient as the migrant labour they replaced. Yet people bitch & moan about migrants ‘stealing our jobs’.
It is really sickening with reference what you said about your dad. He’s probably contributed more than most people born here & yet he’s seen by these idiots as an outsider…. still.

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader No I didn’t get a chance to see that one! But from what you’ve said, sounds about bloody right. Clearly we aren’t generalising all british people but the majority of them who complain about immigrants don’t realise how much we need them. Small pebbles to make a mountain and all that.
There was yet another program I did watch though called “Young, White and Angry” about this 19 year old boy thinking about joining the BNP.
His family didn’t support his views in any way. The sad thing is he just wanted someone to blame for his failure academically.
The most amusing bit of it was he had this girlfriend, very pretty.
And when he first got together with her, he thought she looked a bit chinese, because of her eyes (?!?!)
And he asked her outright, do you have chinese ancestry.
And it was so awkward because she was telling the camera about how she had rung her sister then and there and asked if they had chinese grandparents or anything.
She didn’t it turns out.
But on camera she asked him, if she had turned out to have chinese blood would he have dumped her.
He answered yes outright and god her face!
He then went on to explain himself “Cos, I don’t believe in interracial breeding, i think its wrong, so i would have dumped ya. thats it.”
It was actually pretty funny, but worried me that there were many others like him, young people especially as they are still forming their views even at 19.

And after 30 years here, my dad doesn’t really care, I don’t know how he manages it. We were asking for directions once from these builders and the guys were “Like. I don’t know where that is mate. But you can go in that there shop, speak your own language with the Paki in there”

best thing was my dad actually went into the shop while i proceeded to curse these guys out. he then came out of the shop and wandered off like nothing had happened and i was absolutely fuming!
he is a better person than i clearly 0_o

JeffVader's avatar

@TheOnlyException Unbelievable…..! Nah, your dad just benefits from the calmness & wisdom of age, you seem a pretty-damn-decent person to me :)
That’s just nuts about that 19yr old…. I mean, I know I was very lucky to grow-up on the continent & be exposed to people & cultures from all over the world, but how can someone be so small-minded as to base a relationship on something as spurious as racial purity….. I mean is there any more mongrel group of people on the planet than the British? As you say on one level it is funny, however views like that really are only a few degrees away from those that caused the horrors of the holocaust or the genocide in the Balkans….
30years & people are still treating him like an outsider….. it really boggles the mind!

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader I mean is there any more mongrel group of people on the planet than the British?

HAHA i love that

I know, i guess it is his ‘age and wisdom’. the guy is 70! (old fathers rule..)
haha he taught me how to reuse teabags, very important for a student haha

The BNP are sinking as low as saying that Boris Johnson is part Turkish, so how can we trust a foreigner to run our city?

Erm.. right.
Going on the aryan race thing they have mentioned many a time in their speeches, Boris Johnson is blonde haired and blue eyed.. so what, are they now finding fault in their own ideals?Lord..

HAHA i would LOVE to find out that Nick Griffin has like an Asian great grandfather or something obscure, blow their whole party apart.
But it is so close to genocidal views it is frightening.
one guy in particular talked about the chimneys of auschwitz rising again.
i was almost sick

Englishman here certainly not racist or thick or mongrel for that matter. Those who are will follow anything that’s extreme & unusual as the BNP surely are.I like to call them Bigoted Nob Pricks. The only St.George flag flying in my window this summer will be to support England in the forthcoming world cup. Please don’t lose on penalties again I couldn’t take it.

JeffVader's avatar

@TheOnlyException Hehe, well, we are a pick’n’mix :)
Boris Johnson part Turkish…? I mean, they’re saying THATS why he shouldn’t be running the city…. nothing about him being…. well…. Boris-like?
It is ridiculous that whole Aryan thing…. especially when you consider what the people who did the most to promote racial theory looked like, Hitler & Himmler. You’d really have thought they’d have kept their combined traps shut!
That would be sweet about Nick Griffin. I’m just so furious that the BNP exist at all, kinda makes all those years in the ANL feel like abit of a waste of time…. & whoever said that Auschwitz thing deserves a bad case of Herpes!

As @ragingloli stated times of economic struggle often lead people to these extremist parties, there is something attractive in presenting a simple solution to a complex problem. The vast majority of voters don’t even fully understand the problems in the first place but it is easy to grasp a simple solution. The problem with the BNP is that although they may at first appear to be a one policy party Immigration they are far from it. Their policies on immigration and race are disturbing enough and I don’t think I need to go into those here but here is a selection of their other political stances.

Crime: Re-introduce corporal and capital punishment; introduce automatic prison sentences for all repeat offenders; create more prison places by deporting more foreign criminals

Health: bar foreigners from using the NHS

Education: Allow schools to use corporal punishment; segregate special needs children by re-opening special needs schools; force schools to hold daily Christian assemblies; set up a compulsory military or community service scheme for school-leavers

Foreign Affairs: Withdraw from the EU; oppose what they term “spineless subservience” to the USA; eliminate all foreign aid until “poverty and deprivation amongst British people has been eliminated”, after which aid will be given to countries who “take back” immigrants

Civil Liberties: Abolish the “Human Rights Act”; abolish restrictions on free speech, including bans on incitement to racial and religious hatred

Economy: Exclusion of foreign-made goods from British markets; give preference in the job market to “native Britons”

I wonder if those people that constantly spout the slogans “Britain is full” and “British jobs for British people” would be as keen to vote BNP if they actually took the time to look at the full spectrum of their policies, they certainly don’t paint a picture of a Britain I would want to live in.

TheOnlyException's avatar

@RareDenver Thank you for taking the time to post those so clearly. I had no idea they were planning on reintroducing capital punishment! Damn, those bastards won’t have to ‘repatriate’ me, I’ll be gone long before they get a chance to, who’d want to live in a Britain like that?
And what on Earth do they mean ‘Abolish the Human rights act”, aren’t those our fundamental unspoken rights that no one can or should take away?
Dear Lord
and by abolishing bans on incitement to racial and religious hatred, they are basically encouraging open racism?

you’re right. if only more people were aware of the full spectrum of their policies.

thank you again for posting that, it was really eye-opening :)

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader hahaha nothing about him being ‘Boris-like’ no! wouldnt have minded if they’d bashed him for something he’d actually done haha
there is very little political substance to their views, it is all motivated by race. clearly

“When these Asians go out looking for a victim, they don’t go looking for Asian victims. They don’t go mugging Asian grandmas, they don’t go stabbing each other, they don’t go trying to solicit sex off little Pritesh or little Sanjita, they go straight to the whites because they are trying to destroy us and they are the racists.” – Mark Collett, 2004

It might sound silly but it comforts me that there are facebook groups against the BNP with hundreds of thousands of members.
(Sure beats groups about support for tigers to wear rocket boots hahaha)

what you said about the appearance of people like hitler almost completely contradicting their own ideals has always pissed me off because it is such a blatant display of hypocrisy

and you were in the anti-nazi league? no way! that’s brilliant :-o

@JeffVader and @TheOnlyException The BNP are sinking as low as saying that Boris Johnson is part Turkish, so how can we trust a foreigner to run our city?

Turns out St George was also Turkish, maybe the BNP should get rid of him too. In fact his father was Turkish and his mother Palestinian

JeffVader's avatar

@RareDenver Yeh, you’re absolutely right…. I’d completely forgotten about him :)

TheOnlyException's avatar

@RareDenver You’re absolutely right :)
I actually remember learning that at some point in school, never put it with this until now.
Nice one!

JeffVader's avatar

@TheOnlyException Hehe, Boris is so funny… is there a city in the UK he hasn’t accidentally insulted yet?
That Mark Collet needs to be sorted, once & for all…
Hey, there’s nothing silly about that…. I’m signed up on a couple myself & get regular emails about the BNP’s activities….. rocket propelled Tigers eh? I rather like the sound of that :)
Yeh, I joined the ANL in college when the National Front tried to set up an office in the town…. we didn’t let them. I was lucky that my oldest brother was always very involved in this sort of thing. He marched against the NeoNazi Skinheads in the 80’s & alot of it rubbed off. It’s just one of those things that cant be tolerated, even in it’s milder guises… & I’d best stop there before I rant or something :)

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader nah I like a good rant haha but that is really something!
were you really into it or was it just one of those things? either way, i would love to get into something like that.
feel a bit of a lemon sometimes, but i am planning to go out to one of the ‘days of action’ organised by the hope not hate campaign against the BNP’s political advances, before the general election, its hard to get involved in things i really care about and do exams all at once 0_o

i had a teacher who told me he used to work in Burnley, up north somewhere, where mr. griffin himself resides. used to see the scum everyday while walking to work.
it was a terrible area racism wise, in this school he used to work in it was all war between the white community and the asian community as they thought it would be a good idea to merge two schools that did fine on their own, one of his asian students got smashed over the head with a baseball bat 0_o
he himself is from pakistan so it didn’t really bode well for him, don’t know how he managed to stay there for 4 years without getting killed hahaha
the prejudice in general was just awful as well, one of his students at some point was the girlfriend of the guy convicted of the murder of the goth sophie lancaster

tough old bugger
at one point he had one of the kid’s mothers on the phone complaining about her son’s grades being the fault of ‘those bloody pakis”
she had never met him in person, he almost pissed himself laughing while she was on the phone to him hahaha

also the irony of this

JeffVader's avatar

@TheOnlyException Well….. cock-it! That’s just ridiculous, besides I’m sure everything he yelled was probably accurate anyway, hehehe!
Yeh, I got quite into it for a few years there. The town I’m from had almost no ethnic minority at all. Literally, in my school we had about 1000 pupils & there were two Asian kids, that’s it… which was just weird for me. However when the NF tried to move in we managed to rustle up a couple of hundred people & marched around the market place. Uni was much better for that, you really could get as involved as you wanted, anything from just paying your subscription, to marches….. to the more, subversive. We even got ourselves involved in other things like animal rights, my Uni was near Brightlingsea where they were exporting calves & sheep to Europe. There’s always alot of cross-over. But yeh, went on marches & rallies, crashed NF meetings, had a couple of scraps :)
That’s unbelievable that people still have to put up with crap like that…. sometimes its hard to believe it’s 2010. I remember hearing about that Sophie Lancaster thing…. I know I’ve said it about 100 times but, unbelievable!
Now, as for you, you keep your nose in your books for the time being….. there’s plenty of time for craziness in the years to come :)

TheOnlyException's avatar

@JeffVader daww :( yeah no, that is probably best dammit
hahahaha i’ll keep the activism to a minimum just til all the hormones wear off and i know what the bloody hell im doing!
