Do all those pseudobristles on the expensive toothbrushes actually do anything?

Asked by Nullo (22009points) April 27th, 2010

Or are they solely for nabbing suckers who like interesting-looking toothbrushes?

I have an electric toothbrush (don’t know if that’s what you’re talking about) and it brushes better than a regular toothbrush.

The pinnacle in toothbrushes is the Sonicare.

Other bristles may help, but not enough.

You mean the little rubber nubs? Probably good for gum massage.
Agree with @marinelife about Sonicare. But you do have to change the head every 3 months just like they tell you to. It’s expensive, keeping your teeth in your head!

I had an electric tooth brush. Then it broke and I had to learn how to brush my teeth manually again. I prefer the brush. Non electric.

lol @ChazMaz : Same thing happened to me when I went on vacation(re-learning). It’s such a strange sensation to have to think about it again.

I’m sure some of the new toothbrush technology out there isn’t as awesome for you as the advertisements make them out to be, but in general I think they’re pretty helpful. I have an Oral-B Triumph (used to have a Sonicare, but in my opinion it was not as good as the Triumph) and it has heads with the little rubbery parts. I notice quite a difference when I use those heads versus heads with regular nylon bristles. The rubber ones definitely massage your gums more, and I feel like I get a more thorough, albeit a bit more brutal, tooth cleaning. My boyfriend uses a Sonicare and finds my Triumph too rough, but I found that my Sonicare didn’t clean the insides of my teeth very thoroughly.
