Where can I go to practice Hebrew in Los Angeles?

Asked by quarkquarkquark (1695points) May 8th, 2010

I’m just getting done with a semester abroad in Tel Aviv, and I’m pleased with the amount of Hebrew I’ve learned. I’m looking for somewhere to go where there’s a lot of Israelis around, maybe even plenty who don’t speak much English (which is very uncommon). I’m not talking about a JCC or organization, I’m thinking more along the lines of a coffee shop or hangout.

Look up your local Synagogues. They may well offer conversational and non-theological Hebrew.

Try looking up the location on any felafel stands or Middle Eastern restaurants. It’s possible that Israelis would congregate there.

In San Francisco, a lot of Israelis run the camera shops on Powell street. You might have something similar there.
