Is there anything perfect?

Asked by Zen_Again (9931points) May 13th, 2010

So many “perfectionists” searching for perfection; when’s the last time you encountered something perfect?

There’s no perfection, but we can find the things that are the closest to it at least.

I’m a recovering perfectionist.

There are many things that I view as being perfect: sunrise or a sunset, waves crashing on the beach, birds building their nests. I could go on and on.

I think my dog is perfect.

@tranquilsea I love that you call yourself a “recovering perfectionist.” Best of luck on the road to recovery.

For most things, perfection, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Learn to appreciate things for their inherent being and you start to find perfection is all around.

@Zen_Again I fall off the wagon regularly lol.

“nothing beautiful is ever perfect, nothing perfect is ever beautiful.”

Perfection is really a matter of opinion… except, perhaps, a perfect circle (or is that the opposite? i can’t remember..haha.)

@TheOnlyNeffie: Where’s that quote from? It doesn’t sound familiar. And I’m not sure I buy it.

There are natural perfections that are beautiful; aurora borealis; total eclipse of the sun, rainbow, meteor showers, comets, sliver moon, and newborns of every species.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@gailcalled I’m not 100% positive, but I believe it’s an adaptation of an Egyptian proverb.. which goes “A beautiful thing is never perfect.”

I do believe it. I think that “imperfections” and things that make something stand out, unique… contribute to it’s beauty. But, again, that depends on your opinion of what “perfect” is. Like I said.. I really believe that perfection is a matter of opinion. I see plenty of things that have perceived flaws, but I might still consider them perfect, even if someone else does not.

@Zen_Again me too, it is one of my favorites.

Life is perfect and all that is in it. You just need to see the symbiotic process for what it really is. Then what you want it to be.

DREAMS
...my dream-artist can draw anything, and do it perfectly; he can paint with all the color and all the shades, and do it with delicacy and truth; he can place before me vivid images of palaces, cities, hamlets, hovels, mountains, valleys, lakes, skies, glowing in sunlight or moonlight, or veiled in driving gusts of snow or rain, and he can set before me people who are intensely alive, and who feel, and express their feelings in their faces, and who also talk and laugh, sing and swear. And when I wake I can shut my eyes and bring back those people, and the scenery and the buildings; and not only in general view, but often in nice detail…

Happiness is perfect. Especially knowing you can be the source of someone else’s happiness, that’s the best.

My daughter is pretty darn close. Beautiful, popular, considerate, a wonderful friend, compassionate, intelligent….the kind of person who would almost anything for a person.

Baby toes and little bitty baby noses are perfection.

I’ll go with the toes, but those little bitty baby noses do run a lot.

My cup of tea is just the ultimate in hot, steamy, liquid refreshment, and I stand by that.

So long at it’s supped from the perfect receptacle, of course: a tea cup that is white inside.

@TheOnlyNeffie I believe that philosophy goes into the making of many oriental rugs. An error is always deliberately left, because if it is perfect, the devil will snatch it.

Aster's avatar

Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@anartist I’ve never heard that before, that’s really interesting!
