Does Facebook censor comments?

Asked by earthduzt (3241points) July 1st, 2010

I have a Facebook account mainly just to keep up with old friends and family (they are spread out all over) well anyways I made up this little song about BP and posted it on “What’s on my mind” and it was there for a about a week and I just now noticed it’s gone. Does that go away after a while or did some FB rep censor it and delete it?? All it was was a the Spongebob theme song with the words changed to reflect on the oil spill in the gulf.

it went like this..

OOOOHHHH
Who lives in an oil spill made by BP?
Spongebob Squarepants
Absorbed some of the oil because he lives in the sea
Spongebob Sqarepants
If destroying the ocean is something you wish
Songebob Sqarepants
Then work for BP you’ll kill all the fish
Spongbob Squarepants
Spongebob Sqarepants
Poor Spongebooooob Squarepants*

anyways, it got taken down, and I did not do it…are they really censoring things you post on there now??

Yeah, I’ve had swears taken off, and some friends have had mentions of Twitter taken off. But when I posted about it, everyone I knew tried posting swears, but nothing got taken down, so I looked like an idiot. And then my comment with the swear was put back up. So I don’t know.

I don’t know, but I love that song.

love the song! And yeah FB is monitored, but there’s just so much going on they can’t catch everything. There is a chance someone has reported it. Friends of mine have had photo’s taken down because petty ‘friends’ and ex’s have reported them. It does happen, although I think yours was awesome and the moderators are just being grumpy word removed by Facebook moderators

my comments are never sensored and neither is any of my friends, and they say some pretty um….colorful things. some could report your status as abuse though.

For Easter, I posted a picture of GWBush hugging the Easter bunny with some smart comment, like ‘Funny Bunny’ or some such, and they censored it.

@vampmoore so, people who can see the post would report it.. so I have friend’s reporting on my posts? Holy Crap. Time to cull them out.

i think that its all about users reporting, but sometimes Facebook delete accounts or close groups that violate certain issues, like racism

@espanyol I know that groups that actively promote violence (such as the group “Punch a Bi*ch on May 27”) will get shut down.

@cazzie it may be a little hard to do if you have a lot of friends. i have a close friend who has over three thousand friends on facebook. i once saw her log on…..she had 89 messages, 32 friend requests, and 121 notifications. no. effin. joke.

@vampmoore I’ve kept it very close to who I actually know and kids of my relatives who were either not born or only babies when I left the US…. and I have a few friends who are rather ‘conservative’ and I can almost guess which of two it was. Maybe. I had this thing for a while where I would change my profile pic to express my ‘status’ and it was my profile pic I put up with Bush and the Bunny, so they all would have seen it and it was pinged. (I’m proud to have 144 friends of facebook)
