I like Tumblr, but I like the picture blogging much more than the word blogging.

I’d give Posterous a shot (plus they’re right down the street from Fluther).

I love WordPress.

I have to agree with @timtrueman. I have a posterous blog and I love it.

I use tumblr only because there’s a better community there for the subject of my blog. But I prefer Wordpress as a straight blogging platform.

For a writing blog, I use wordpress. Tumblr really seems to be for snippets of text or picture blogging.

So the general consensus is that for something more ornate, Wordpress is the way to go?

poofandmook's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr: mine is wordpress… and I don’t know what you consider ornate but I think for a blog, mine is.

There’s a link to mine on my profile, so you can see two very different themes in use if that helps.

I would say Wordpress is more robust than tumblr or blogger. It allows for expansion should the need arise. Customization options are greater and easy to implement. I also find the privacy and security settings more extensive and flexible. Yes, between the three I would say Wordpress. I have only read about posterous but it seems what it offers can be accomplished with Wordpress through the use of plug-ins, which is another Wordpress feature that puts it over the top for me.

Tumblr is easy, and straightforward. It has everything you need for a normal blog.
Wordpress is more complicated and very powerful. It’s still easy enough for a newbie to use the important functions.

Wordpress doesn’t want me to upload a new theme. This sucks on ice.

definitely wordpress over blogger. I made that switch a while ago and it made me happy.
you can check it out here

.
I host my own domain, which allows me to use wordpress.org instead of wordpress.com.This gives me a hell of a lot of customisation and control with the themes.

@Seek_Kolinahr Wordpress is really only magic if you install it on your own server…
My opinion…

Ugh.

Okay, because I am 1. poor, so squarespace is out, 2. not talented, so wordpress is out, and 3. in need of much more than “Hi, I’m here today” blogging, so tumblr is out…

I guess I’m sticking with Blogger. Which I kinda understand, having used it before. Gods, I hope it gives me what I need. Grr.

wilhel1812's avatar

I would definitely choose tumblr over blogger. Blogger is kinda outdated, and tumblr is more powerful than you’d think!

Wordpress = Love.

@Seek_Kolinahr I’m pretty tech-tarded, so if I can get wordpress to work for me I’m sure you can! Just play around with it for a bit… you’ll get the hang of it.
