Hungry, but no appetite for weeks now... is it in my head?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) August 20th, 2010

I have had a very poor appetite for a few weeks now. Nothing sounds or tastes good to me, not even my favorite foods. Up until a few days ago it was just a general lack of appetite, nothing was appealing and I was forgetting to eat. The last 2 days I’ve felt nauseous when I think about eating. I actually ended up throwing away a whole salad and the majority of a sandwich yesterday – and that was all I’d had. I really thought I was going to be sick.

Well now my stomach is growling, since it’s 4pm and I haven’t eaten yet, but I can’t find a single thing in my fridge or pantry that isn’t making my stomach do flip flops.

I’ve been under some stress lately, could that be causing this? I also posted that I’ve been having trouble sleeping for the same length of time, they seem to have come on hand in hand.

I’m not pregnant.

Oh, I was all ready & primed with the pregnant hit, dash it all ;¬} Maybe you crave a radical change in your diet. Just a thought.

You sure your not pregnant. I would go to the doctor if I were you.

99% sure I’m not pregnant. Could it be something else hormonal, though?

Go to this site, Mayoclinic.com They have a symptom checker. Put it in your symptom and it gives you suggestions.

It says I might have acute liver failure.. or an ulcer.

I would go to the doctor then. I mean mayoclinic is one of the best clinic in the world.

They also tell you whether you should go to the doctor or home remedies. What did the suggest?

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

It didn’t suggest, it just gave me a list of hepatitis, liver failure, and ulcer – and that was it. I could have clicked on any of them. I don’t have reason to believe that any of those are the cause, so I didn’t look any further.

Well maybe it’s stress. Are you stressed? Stress can effect your body extremely.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Yep, I have been pretty stressed out lately. That is what I asked in the original question, if this could be from stress. That is my suspicion.

Frenchfry's avatar

Yes. Well if you must take care of your problem one by one. Tackle them one by one.I would suggest going to a doctor he can give you medication if needed and check you out.

Well first off even i would be going to the doctors for this. Second off it is most definitely in your head and from stress. Tell yourself all day i want to eat,i want to eat,i want to eat. Once you feel like eating pig out.
Another possible scenario is a parasite.

I guess it’s just me. I don’t go to a doctor unless I’m near death. haha. That could be years without health insurance conditioning me, though.

I don’t go to the doctor either. I had this feeling in my insides, it felt like something had been torn. It was like a triple super cramp and a half, it lasted way over a month. I didn’t go to the docs.
Broken fingers.
Heck when i was really little i hurt my hand, you think i told my mom. Nope.

But not wanting to eat, i would go. Definitely go.
