Do you wiggle your feet when lying in bed before falling asleep?

Asked by purephase (749points) March 24th, 2008 from iPhone

my girlfriend and I realized that we both wiggle and rub our feet around when we are lying in bed. We thought it was funny and wanted to know if others do this and why?

Yeah I do it.

But I don’t know why. It just feels good. I also do it when I’m sitting down (without shoes on).

See if you can catch yourself doing it then too.

I am completely unable to wiggle my feet in bed because there is usually a dog laying on them!!!

Yes, I think it’s a relaxation reflex. It also stimulates circulation, which feels good if your feet are tired.

Oh my gosh… LOL yes I do. But I have a dog behind my knees and one at my feet who tries to bite if I move them so j have to sneak…

wow randy, you too? I constantly wiggle my feet when they are cold. Which like you said is always, i have a heater on them now just so they arent cold.

My feet always sweat too which is really annoying and i think thats why they are cold half the time because they are wet.

@ uberbatman- Thats crazy because mine also sweat all the time. I constantly keep mine covered in some way to try to keep them warm, which could be what causes the sweating, which could cause the coldness, which could cause a vicious circle I’ll never escape from! Now I’m curious.

Well Randy when i went to the dermatologist last year for acne medicine i asked her about my feet. She said it is probably hyperhidrosis she gave me some medicine to cure it, but it was a real pain because you had to wash your feet really well twice a day then dry them thoroughly for 10 minutes then put on the lotion. All in all too much work so i stopped. Now i just suffer from really cold sweaty smelly feet. Ah well.

I havero do it so I can fall asleep. Its called restless foot syndrome or RFS foe short.

@uberbatman I work for a podiatrist, so we treat hyperhidrosis as well. You can go to the drugstore and buy a product called Certain-dri. It’s a little towelette that you can rub on your feet. It is actually mainly used as under arm deodorant, but it works very well for your condition, and is probably less expensive than the lotion you’ve been getting.

If you wear boots or shoes that cause your feet to sweat because of lack of air getting to them, you should try wearing thick cotton socks to absorb the moisture.

And back on topic… I wiggle my feet at night too!!

I’m sitting here waiting to open my store, or where I work. I looked down at my foot, and dang, I’m wiggling it. Restless Foot Syndrome, eh? I’ve got it!

Muscles contracting and relaxing as your fall asleep often cause twitching if that is what you are refering to.
