Illinois House of Representatives has passed civil unions legislation, how will you celebrate if (when) Ill. Senate passes it and Gov. Quinn signs it into law?

Asked by prolificus (6583points) November 30th, 2010

The civil unions legislation vote passed 61:52 in the House. Most likely the Senate will pass the bill onto Gov. Quinn who has promised to sign it into law.

Hoping for same-sex civil unions (if not marriage) to become a Federal law someday, I am extremely thankful I will be able to enter into a civil union once this legislations becomes law in my state!! I think I will celebrate by throwing a party with my friends!! (No joke!!)

What do you think of this historic event? How will you celebrate? What do you hope for regarding same-sex unions and marriage?

Congratulations! It is time. I wish it could be marriage and I wish it could be national.

I will say ’ it should have always been so – we shouldn’t have had to fight this hard for something so obvious ’ but celebrate nonetheless.

Celebrate? Quietly. Just a sense of satisfaction that one more step has been taken in the right direction. A hope that one day, my friends will have same rights I do.

I will listen to the song “I kissed a girl and I liked it”

Oh, also I meant marriage not civil unions.

I’m happy for you. :-)

It’s an important step and I think same-sex couples should have full marriage rights in every country on this planet.

You know what would be even greater? If government would just leave marriage alone and just allow all consenting adults to enter into marriage contract if they wanted, instead of making laws. Why not change it into someone’s personal business and if they want to tell people they are contractually married to 2 people or whatever…that’s none of my business.

@jlelandg – Indeed. The marriage contract should not be about the government telling people who can legally have sex with who.
