Any sites like livemocha.com?

Asked by Beastlicker (145points) December 30th, 2010

Hey. I am in the process of learning German, and am using many resources to help. One of them I have found is livemocha. I really enjoy the role play and getting “graded” on the writings and taking quizzes and such.

The only problem is that it runs a bit expensive – $15 a month is a bit more than what I’m looking to pay. So if any of you know a good website like livemocha that’s a little cheaper (or free) please tell of it.

While it’s not quite the same, my wife recommends WordReference.com. The site has forums for questions and she has always found them helpful. The German forum is here. I know this isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but it is free.

Try besuu.com, it has premium freatures that you have to pay for, but the basic ones are free. Also, you should check out yabla.com which you have to pay for but it is very beneficial.

Have you tried using Livemocha without buying the extra software and stuff? I’ve used Livemocha a bit, without buying anything. True, I’ve never been able to stick to it long enough to learn much, but I would think it’d work alright.

LingQ-The future of language learning. It’s for free, and much better than “Livemocha“is.
