Is there any evidence vitamin E has any affect on sexual activity or is it just a myth?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) February 8th, 2011

I remember years ago there was a big craze about using vitamin E supplements to improve sexual performance, and then it seemed the craze ended. Recently I remarked to someone about vitamin E having affects on sexual performance, and they had never heard anything about it. Was there ever any evidence one way or another? As always, any jokes or humor welcomed and appreciated.

No.
You must be thinking of vitamin V. ;)

Vitamin E also comes from the sun.

Sunworshippers would not have to take Viagra, if this were the case.

Vit. E does have a positive effect on the reproductive organs of women, but men, I dunno.

Years ago my doc put me on Vit. E and B supplements for PMS issues.

My symptoms decreased dramatically within the 1st month.

As far as sexual enhancement…dunno that either.

@john65pennington

That is vitamin D- we need to consume vitamin E.

Nothing for vitamin D or E (although both of those are good for you)

For sexual stuff:

Dark chocolate contains phenylalanine, an amino acid that boosts arousal and mimics
brain chemistry of a person in love

Oysters are high in zinc, which is known to raise testosterone levels and sperm
production in me

Zinc is an important nutrient to increase libido. A deficiency of zinc can contribute
to a low libido, low sperm count, irregular periods for women… In some cases a
deficiency of zinc can make a woman completely lose her sex drive

L- Arginine is an amino acid that is very popular for the treatment of sexual
dysfunction. Arginine will relax blood vessels and allow more blood to flow through
arteries and to the organs. L-Arginine is excellent for men to get and maintain an
erection

Korean Ginseng is one of my favorite herbs. It is known to possess phytoestrogen
activity and is believed to help the body adapt to stress, which helps female and male
libido.

Horny Goat Weed has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to
increase sex drive. It increases blood flow in the body, letting more blood flow to the
penis and clitoris. It has also been found to support the neurotransmitter in the brain
to stimulate sexual arousal

Maca, also known as Peruvian Ginseng has been used traditionally to increase
libido and sexual stamina

It’s a fat-soluble vitamin, and as such, it comes in gel caps filled with vegetable oil. If you’re out of Glide, it will do in a pinch, but you’ll need to break open quite a few of them.

@IchtheosaurusRex

Yuck- have you ever smelled Vitamin E? Definitely a turn-off, unless a smell like long-dead carp turns you on…
