Do you develope antibodies to the Lyme disease cause (is it a virus???), or could you again become "infected"?

I live, I just learned, in the Lyme epicenter of the 48 states (Columbia County in NYS.) I know dozens of people who have had Lyme disease up to 6 or 7 times, each time requiring a new course of antibiotics. Having found an engorged tick hanging off my arm last week, I am nowafraid to step into the garden without a Haz. suit. :-(
