What is the cheapest and most timely way to get from Springfield MA to Montreal Canada? Note I do not have a car.

Asked by ththththth (241points) March 28th, 2011

I am needing to get to Montreal for the weekend of the 15th of April and due to budget constraints need the most cost effective way to go. I have tried both Amtrak and Greyhound and was looking for a cheaper alternative. Please help me here???

Those two are the cheapest ways I know of to cross the border. You could try posting something on the local colleges, also check rideshare / craigslist.

Try the five colleges in the Pioneer Valley. Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst, U Mass and Hampshire plus Springfield college. They probably have ride boards. But if you can’t afford the Amtrak or bus N. from Albany to Montreal, it’s a crap shoot.

You might want to check Tov Travel from NYC to Montreal.

also check out Coach Canada or MegaBus. It may not be Amherst to Montreal direct, but you may be able to get inovative.
