Do foster homes have agents check on them once and a while?

Asked by iwannamakemovies (233points) March 29th, 2011

I’m writing a web series about a foster home and one of the characters is a Child Services/Social Services/something Services Agent. I know the child only sees their agent twice. When they enter foster care, and when they leave. But does anyone check on the foster homes?

Yes. When my wife worked for DSS, they had people who spot-checked the foster homes. Too many foster homes, not enough staff however – so the inspections were infrequent.

So in the USA, would it be any problem if the show had a designated inspector who checked as frequently as once a month?

In Tennessee, the foster home is checked once a month and written reports have to be filed with the state. These reports include all activities of each child in the foster home.
