Is there any Ghost Towns near San Diego?

Asked by simone54 (7629points) April 23rd, 2008

Is there an old abandon town that I could take a drive and check out? Like something that is still abandon and doesn’t have a bunch of tourist stuff around.

Watch out for ghosts and tumbleweeds at Old Town San Diego. I’ve been here many times and always enjoy myself. Yes, it is touristy buy who cares? All the buildings are original and of the period. There’s even one attraction, The Whaley house, that is supposed to by haunted.
While your not getting spooked there, you can eat some great mexican food in a beautiful, lively outdoor setting.

peedub, this sounds like it’s straight out of a brochure and made me laugh (to myself)... thank you. =]

haha, it’s totally not! I’m a dork…either that or I’ve been watching the travel channel too much. No, I’m a dork.

Hahaha. It’s ok. I’m a self-proclaimed dork, too.

Is there a dork/nerd/geek hierarchy scale?

Some here might say so.

I don’t think we have an actual ghost town, however, there is a haunted tour that you can take. The tour is in the evening & takes you to all the haunted spots & will tell you the stories. There is a school that was built on top of a graveyard. The kids play on top of unmarked graves that haven’t been moved. Of course the whaley house is super spooky. There’s all kinds of scary stuff here.

Wow. These are the worst answer I even got on here. Does anyone know what a ghost town is??? It is an old abandon town. I’m not trying to actually look for ghost! Thanks for wasting my time flagging all this.

Dude, I know what it means. That town is ABANDONED. There just happens to be a haunted place, that is purely coincidental. Maybe you should read the link I gave you instead of jumping to lame conclusions, I was trying to give you a very helpful tip.

Good luck with your flagging, gunslinger.

Yeah Old Town has a pretty much a huge tourist trap. That’s not what I was looking for, as stated in my question.

In all fairness, you didn’t give us much to work with. You limited us to San Diego, which if I remember is kind of a big city with people in it.

Any old western “ghost town” is going to now be some sort of attraction.
Maybe you should find a housing tract that’s almost finished being constructed and drive around or explore the empty houses. I don’t know, you said “ghost town,” that’s what old town is. There are hitching posts, cacti, adobe, EMPTY domiciles…

@allie: Well last time I check NEAR meant in the vicinity of. So San Diego being a HUGE city there would be a lot more places NEAR it. It is also a HUGE county too so I’m sure there could be something.

@peedub: So the answer should just have been “No, there isn’t”

I don’t care that much. Whatever.

Have you tried Google?

Edit: Here, I’ll just do it for you.

Ok, but it is seriously fun, I hate touristy stuff and it was cool. My ex is from SD and we are both young and go to bars, etc, and it was still cool.

Bodie might be more what you have in mind, but it’s kinda far.
