With interest rates so low, what might be a good investment?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) May 1st, 2008

Bank account interest rates seem like a poor investment right now. Stocks are iffy. Just heard about municipal bonds going bankrupt. Ideas?

Well that’s the million dollar questions now isn’t it :)

My investing club is looking into domestic and international stocks that deal in: trees, water, pipline manufacturers, biotech and precious metals, palladium especially.

Yes—lottery tickets—that sounds great! I wonder why I didn’t think of that myself?

I’ve heard from two different sources that a) the Romanian economy is growing like crazy, and b) African interests are up and coming. The latter was from the NYT.

I have a cousin who spent time in Romania; he eventually gave a grubstake to a family. Now there is Bob’s Pizza in Bucharest. (Hold the pepperoni.)

Buy a foreclosed house. HUD houses can be picked up pretty cheap especially if they need some work. Fix it up and flip it or rent it out. If your renting it once its paid for thats money every month minus maintenance.
