What does it mean when a guy says your name a lot ?

Asked by partyrock (3870points) November 17th, 2011

So I’ve recently started talking to this guy that I’m really interested in, and I’ve noticed whenever we chat he always says my name.

I’m not sure if this has any significant meaning, as a lot of people/friends/family say each others name while writing to them.I may be looking too much into it or does he just like saying my name?

Any response he gives he it usually ends or starts with him repeating/saying my name. Anyone know ??

Guys what does this mean, if anything ? Does it just mean he likes communicating with me?

One possibility is that he likes your name… how it sounds to him… or because it is your name… I would do that… (male, 42 years), or it is only his way to communicate… instead of writing or saying “Hello”, “Hi” or things like that…
I would ask him… ;)

It could be a cultural thing. I know that in some East Indian cultures it is customary to say the name of the person one is talking to, not just once, but quite often during the same conversation. This is also true of some Asian cultures. It’s a way of respecting and acknowledging the person you’re talking to.
If he’s not East Indian or Asian, I would say he likes you, and because he likes you, he likes your name, too. Remember the song from West Side Story where the guy just keeps singing, “Maria, Maria, Maria…”?

@partyrock, it could be that he doesn’t want to forget your name, @partyrock.

I knew a guy years ago who started and finished every sentence with “dude”...
“Dude, that was a great movie dude.”
“Dude, I’m going to the bathroom dude.”

Maybe it’s just habit?

It depends if he only acts like this around you. Maybe it’s just how he was raised.

Why do so many of these kid’s posts start with “So….”?

He wants your name ingrained in his head so he doesn’t accidently slip sometime and say the wrong name :D

@Dutchess_III – Is there anything wrong with that ?

Well, other than it’s a bit jarring coming at the beginning of the sentence because “so” usually comes in the middle of a sentence to indicate that one thing happened and as a result something else happened. “I spilled paint all over myself so my shirt was ruined.”

I’m just curious as to what the fad is with starting a sentence out with “so” as though you’re continuing a story when you’re actually just beginning a story….?

Could be he is attracted to you and want you to like him.
I mean one of the sexiest things someone can say is your name.

@Dutchess_III – It’s just words, it’s just language, it does not mean anything significant. It does not make anyone better or less intelligent. There was nothing wrong with my grammar. It’s not like I was misspelling words or mixing up “There, their, than, then” etc etc. Get over it. Some people choose the way they speak, don’t make it something deeper than what it is.

It means your name is Judy and he’s channeling Carey Grant?
