Do most men really have a "need" for Viagra?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) December 5th, 2011

I am almost 68 years old and have never had a “need” for Viagra. Are most elderly men not capable of sustaining the strength to satisfy a woman in the same situation as myself? Are the Viagra commercials really serving a purpose or is it just about the money and Viagra attempting to convince older men that they “need” Viagra, when its not necessary>

I guess your dick is just a lot better than every other old man’s dick, John Pennington.

I think that, once again, wants and needs are being confused.

The best part about taking Viagra is the difference between, “hey I gotta hard on!” & “HOLY SHIT I AM GIGANTIC AND WILLING TO POKE HOLES IN BRICKS! LETS DO THIS!!!”

It’s also cool to walk around in sweatpants with a four hour hard-on.

dear lord I hope this is in the social section or fluther is gonna be pissed

Ask “Jacks’” dad. That has to be one of the funniest commercials I have seen.

@rojo, what is the Ask Jack’s dad commercial?

@bkcunningham The Jack in the Box commercial where he is visiting with his mom in the kitchen and his dad comes in. You can find it on youtube listed as – Jack in the box commercial “Jack visits”. I am sorry I cannot provide a direct link. I do not know how to do it securely.

@bkcunningham that commercial was pretty obtuse, I don’t know if I would have gotten it had it not appeared in the context of this question. But some of the other banned commercials that came up were hysterical. I especially liked the Sprite one where the good looking girl exchanged her bikini bottom for the guy’s boardies then left him standing there in the water while she went back to the beach, hehehe!

To answer the question, I don’t know how many men need it but judging from the overwhelming number of ads and commercials for the stuff, I would have to believe a hell of a lot!!!

I would like a man if any age who is not so desensitized by pirn or strip clubs that he can actually still function like a man was born to do. You guys taking this stuff have emotional problems. Too bad that you have allowed this messed up society to f…with your brain. You make choices but have no cintroll over the results like you arrogant types think you do. Good luck with that. You are like sheep.Turn on your brain by yourself. That is a Choice as well. You can wake up or stay asleep. You will suffer , not me.

@missscarlet36 not really sure what your rant is about. Could you please clarify?
What I think you are saying is that porn, strip clubs, etc de-sensitize the male psyche which in turn make it difficult to achieve erection and that, between a permissive society and commercial propagana, we have messed ourselves up to the point where we only THINK we cannot achieve erection but we actually can if we just put our minds to it and that if we keep believing we need viagra that we are the ones who will suffer, not you. Is that pretty much it?
If I am correct then you might have a valid point but you don’t have to get nasty about it.

Yes, you put to “pen” what I was attempting to express. Viagra has given men an excuse for not seeking out the real reason that they can not achieve or maintain an erection. My guy is 57 and is messed up in his head since childhood. A man I know who is 65 is quite functioning and has a heart problem with medication which supposedly keeps blood pressure down preventing too much excitement but still manages to get really erect and stay that way. But he also stays away from any erotic viewing or reading material. Hence my prospective. What do you think?

Like I said, you might have a valid point. I can see where a person who spent a lot of time watching (and getting all worked up) about porn could reach the point where it took some really, really odd stuff to get them excited. More later.

Yes. That is my point. They become sadly desensitized.
