NSFW- If you feel like it- Self enjoyment facilitation devices- Is there a gender discrepancy in the focus of their design?

Asked by Imadethisupwithnoforethought (14682points) February 20th, 2012

Why does it seem like sex toys for men focus on women as whole persons, while sex toys for women make no attempt to depict a man in total? I am specifically thinking about the popularity of the “real doll” sex toys vs. vibrators. Do men imagine complete women and women only focus on the operative parts?

Am I imagining this based on limited experience? Do women have equivalent whole male toys I am unaware of?

There are male real dolls. There are also male blowup dolls.

I wouldn’t say that male sex toys “focus on women in total.” A lot of male sex toys look like something from a Hans Bellmer (nsfw) art project.

Wait, those just the pussy/ass things are “the woman as a whole person”? Because, no, you can’t look those in the eyes, make some flirtatious small talk, tell it how you love its mind. Not that you’d be doing that with any sex toy, but it’s pretty much reducing women to literally just the orifices.

Because women just need the money and the funny bits, nothing else.
I don’t know.

Okay, @Aethelflaed

1) Ick.
2) I don’t suspect any man I know has a sex toy. Every woman I know has admitted to having a sex toy.

Let me ask you this, do you know any men who have those?

I’d have to agree with the general consensus here. Seems pretty neutral. Dildos, silicone cunts and blow up dolls for all!

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought Those specific ones? Other than the Fleshlight, not that I know of, though I don’t really make a point of asking my male friends what sex toys they all have. ::Briefly ponders just how inappropriate it would be to do a quick poll of all FB friends…:: But sex toys in general, including ball gags, cockrings, etc? Tons.

As for women, what possible excuse other than financial reasons could you possibly have for not having at least one vibe?

@everyone, I am discovering I am naive.

Eh, it happens.

Oooo, look at this – it’s like getting a bj from the characters in Monsters, Inc. I can’t tell if it’s insanely creepy, or insanely awesome.

@Aethelflaed I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard You wanna go live on the planet that invented that? Yeah, me too.

I have seen fake vaginas in sex shops.

Because women are much better using their imagination when playing solo.

Men still need/prefer the whole image.

Real Dolls are for people with more money than sense.

Fleshlights are much more affordable (>$80) and practical.

Women not focussed on the whole man?
Some women even have threesomes
