Has anyone returned to their childhood town to live and found happiness?

Asked by Aster (20023points) March 21st, 2012

Has anyone , having moved away from the town where they grew up with great happiness and missed it returned to live there and found the lost contentment they were seeking? Or found the move to be a great disappointment and regretted it?

I’ve returned home to visit multiple times and each visit only solidified my decision to never go back there lol.

I think that only happens on the Lifetime Channel and only at Christmas time.

I have returned a few times to have a look and it is clearly no longer my childhood town.

One reason I asked is that I have half a dozen or more close friends I grew up with still living there. The old neighborhood looks exactly the same, the downtown is almost the same, the old church is still there and looks beautiful but one thing has changed: the crime rate. Almost no crime when I lived there but last week a house on my old street was robbed. We all would walk home in the dark at night and never feared anything. But now I think few people would be out walking at midnight and feel safe.

I reside in the same village founded by my family 170yrs ago. I am quite content. More content now than when I lived merely miles away. It feels like home to me.

It’s like living in coziness @Aster. It truly is. I can walk by buildings my family helped build. See the home my grandma grew up in…know that the land my son is being raised on helped raise so many of my ancestors. I love this place.
