Anyone know about the Derma Roller?

I was wondering if anyone knew how effective this is on acne scars, if there are any bad side effects and if this is something that can be attempted at home by yourself. I dont have severe acne scarring, however I would not call it mild either. It is mostly bad around my jaw line. Derma rolling has many uses and the little bit of research I have done on it seems to have pretty positive results. I just wanted to see if anyone here had more of a personal experiance with this. Running a metal objects with a hundred tiny needles over my cheeks and jaw sounds a bit like torture lol
