Are you of the geekosphere? Have you been awaiting Prometheus?

Asked by syz (35938points) June 6th, 2012

I’m only a part-time geek, surfing the very shallows of the geekosphere, but I’ve been aware of the chatter about Prometheus for about two years now. (I’ve certainly never taken it to the extreme of reading theses on the meaning of women in the Alien movies.)

So, prequel? Parallel story in the same universe? What’s your take on Prometheus? (How about that intense theatrical trailer?)

I have heard it is the story of creation in that universe, but not an alien prequel per se.

I was originally not that interested, but the trailers look amazing,

Haven’t seen it yet, but I’m really interested in doing so. It’s supposed to explain the origin of the Xenomorphs, which is what I’m interested in.

More on the clever viral marketing.

(Oh, and does anyone else think the ship looks like a Firefly class? Homage?)

Yeah I don’t know. I didn’t even see the trailer anyway. I heard this, I heard that; guess I’ll know when I see it.

I remember walking back to my apartment from the movie theater after watching the original. I was scared out of my wits, but was with some friends who made some incredibly funny comments about the film.
I have been waiting for the movie since then. What is that? 33 years?
I would probably avoid the “prequel” term if everyone saw this as I do: an independent story that happened before the events of Sigourney Weaver in her panties the prior movie series.

I am HYPED! I know it’s same universe (Peter Weyland teaser more or less gives that away- lovely little shpeel). Past that, unknown.

I’ve seen it. Glorious visuals but a crazy mixed up storyline. Almost but not quite a disappointment.

I’m looking forward to watching a movie, that’s as far as it goes, nothing remotely geeky.

Woo hoo, it opens here tomorrow! My mom, my husband, me- we’re all anxious to see it.

The trailer looks badass! I didn’t even know it was coming out, but when I seen the ship and the “space jockey” I was like “FUCK YEAH, THIS IS AN ALIEN PREQUEL!!!!” I will definitely go check it out.

Just finished watching it.

Pretty good. Not really excited by it, but not a bad film at all.

I thought it was amazing. It was both a prequel and not at the same time. At first I was very satisfied with the prequel-ness of it and assumed now that storyline and its segway to Alien was finished with and whatever movie comes afterwards would follow the non-prequel part of the movie but on further consideration I have realised a few discontinuities along the Alien part of it, however it is still a gorgeous and exciting and scary and awesome movie anyway and am looking forward to the next movie following the new questions raised.
