Has POS (Point of Sale) linked to inventory in stores yet?

For example someone buys a product and the cash registers a sale and invoices the warehouse that a empty space can be filled.

Walmart has used satellite inventory replenishment from POS for many years. Several other retail stores also use something to replace sold items.
