Who do you like for the 2013 Kentucky Derby?

Asked by Blueroses (18261points) May 2nd, 2013

My little city has a locally owned horse in the Run for the Roses so the whole town is betting on Frac Daddy mainly for hometown pride.

All the simulcast bars are expecting record turnouts to cheer on that lanky grey colt.

Any excitement in Flutherland? Plans to party or wear a great hat?

I don’t follow the sport, but I do enjoy Derby day.

Regardless of the horses’ odds, I always pick the one with my favourite name.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never won. ^_^ It’s a great excuse to drink a Mint Julep, though!

I might go with Verrazano, because I grew up with that bridge outside my bedroom window.

I have not followed it much. I will not be wearing a grand hat, but will switch my drink of choice from Blueroses and Bourbon to Mint Julep’s for the occasion.

What are the weather conditions for the race? Frac’s a good mudder by reputation but slow. On a wet track it might be a good bet.

@Adirondackwannabe Looks like an outlook for a sloppy track. He’s also got Victor Lebron riding and Lebron is having a good year!

@Blueroses I wish I could be in the bar hanging with you guys for the race. The last World Cup final we watched in a bar with about 300 crazy people. That was so much fun. I’ll pull for Frac Daddy for you guys.

Thanks @Adirondackwannabe! We’d definitely save you a seat and a pint (Frac’s owners own a local brewpub – they’ll be debuting a Frac Daddy Ale, I’m sure, to go with their other great horse’s namesake, Golden Ticket Lager).

I’ll be betting $20 to win and $20 to show on Frac, just because it adds to the excitement when you have a stake in… also probably have to put side bets on Calvin Borel’s and Jose Espinoza’s mounts because they’re awesome jockeys.
