Whatever you do with eCigarettes, watch out for scams. Some of them market in a particularly dirty fashion. I just had a run-in with a company that hijacked my browser on my way to Amazon and claimed to offer me a free prize [apparently from Amazon] if I would answer a 5-question survey. I did and one of the choices was eCigarettes so I clicked that one. And got a bill for $5.00 shipping followed by a bill for 109.00 for a starter kit. Apparently they had also signed me up for a $65/mo membership to receive supplies. It took some squawking to get rid of the charge and cancel the membership but I had to eat shipping both ways. If you buy from reputable source and some are on Amazon the cost for starter kit is more like $30.

I’ve been “vaping” for over a year and have completely quit real cigarettes as a result. I don’t reccommend the ones that look like real cigs; the quality tends to be poor and because the cartridges are not interchangeable they tend to be more expensive. Instead, go for something like an Ego-Vision kit, which comprises a longer-lasting battery with a refillable tank. Lasts much longer, cheaper to maintain and you can get a multitude of different flavours of liquid.

Nicotine strength is a factor too, and depends on how many cigs a day you normally smoke. If you’re a light smoker (10 or less a day) you won’t want to go above 12 or 14mg/ml. A very heavy smoker might need to start at 20–24mg. And if, like me, you’re a “chain-vaper” you can get very low or even zero-nicotine liquids.

You can get quite in-depth with advanced kit too. Best thing to do is join a vapers forum that’s appropriate for the country you live in, and you’ll get plenty of reccommendations for good businesss to buy from. Also lots of advice if you have technical difficulties.

What about an E-Hookah? They come in fun flavors. The brand I buy is Fantasia. I can generally buy them at a smoke shop. There is no tobacco or nicotine in them. :)

I’m thinking of going with this San Francisco small time shop called Velvet Cloud Vapor

It seems legit. Any other recommendations before I pull the trigger on a starter kit?

I have a couple of buddies who smoke.

Last Christmas, I had my annual Martini and Scotch party, and provided them with E cigarettes, so they would not have to go outside in the cold to smoke.

It was, I have to say, a great idea. They had fun, and nobody was bothered by their habit. I think the ones I bought were called Apollo. I think.

@_Whitetigress I notice their CE4 clearos are out of stock but I do reccommend getting a couple of those from elsewhere as well if you can. But the liquids look awesome.

Just a note though – they make a “big thing” of having no propylene glycol in their liquids. PG is not harmful and not something you need to avoid – it’s just not organic. The purpose of PG is as a carrier and it also helps with the “throat hit” that you get with a real cigarette. A liquid made without it will be much smoother when you inhale but if you’re looking for the same sensation as smoking you will be disappointed. You may need to go for a slightly higher nicotine level in a non-PG liquid.

I’m with @downtide on this.

If you do go for an eGo, or compatible, though, don’t bother with the “Stardust” clearomizers. Certainly don’t spend a lot for them. All the ones I’ve had end up pulling away from its base and leaking. Also, they don’t have a high capacity and, if you’re like me, when you first start with an eCig and don’t smoke regular cigarettes you’ll be puffing on that thing non-stop.

If you want to look like a boss, get the Joyetech eVic

I’ve never heard of the evic, looks like a product that hasn’t yet made it to the UK. Personally my favourite clearos are the Kanger T3 bottom-feed rebuildable ones. They hold nearly 3ml and you don’t have to keep tipping them upside down. I also love the Kanger Protank which, being made of metal and glass is idea for liquids like cinnamon that tend to melt plastic (which is probably what’s happenning to your Stardusts). If you get the protank you really NEED that airflow controller, because on its own it draws too much air.

I’ve also heard good things about the EVOD but I’ve not actually tried one. They look very stylish but they don’t hold as much as the T3.

There is a guy who runs an ecig store in my town (sadly he doesn’t have a website for me to show you) and he is buying old hookahs, converting them to electric and selling them back to shisha cafes which are running foul of the UK smoking ban.

I’ve got a Locking Jugz 510 DCT/SCT that’s 5ml. It’s very nifty. But, no, from what I can tell the Stardusts will just pop apart at some point. It’s happened to all of mine, a friend of mine who had them, and when people see what kind of tank I have they ask if it falls apart like the Stardust does.

I want an eVic just for the excess alone. It looks like it’s doing something really important with all those digital readouts.
