Is this creepy, should I change my user name, and how the heck do you delete a myspace account?

Asked by Judi (40025points) August 28th, 2013 from iPhone

I used to be a member of another Q&A site years ago. I answered a question there about bioidentical hormones probably around 2008.
Today I got a phone call (on my cell) from a guy who is desperate to help his wife who is suffering the same way I was before I got the bioidenticals.
I’m a little freaked out. He was able to take my name there and somehow connect it to my myspace account. He them found my last name and city and ended up finding the name if our business. Our business answering machine gives my cell.
This guy was innocent enough but it sort of creeps me out! I need to cancel the MySpace account that I never use but I can’t figure out how to do it.
I hope none of you are creepers but just that someone can find my last name, my city of residence and my cell phone just by googling is unsettling.

I can’t help you specifically but had essentially the same experience yesterday. I was having a pre-surgery assessment and medical history interview with the nurse at my orthopedic surgeon’s Pre-op assessment unit. The nurse had detailed medical info m about me from the 1960’s at her fingertips that I had completely forgotten about.

She said that it was all “in the records.”

It is scary what’s out there online on everybody. Someone got a phone call from my area, so they asked me if it was me calling. They gave me the number and I was able to find the names and ages of the family members, their family history, the address and even a picture of the house with a complete detail of the residence within minutes. Can’t help you on the Myspace.

Welcome to the future. What you experienced was actually the best case scenario. Usually you hear of people doing that kind of thing in order to harass someone. This time, it was actually to help someone.

Have you tried contacting customer service?

Don’t worry about such things.
BTW, the tree in front of your house looks like it has a leaf virus, and your car is due for a recall on the steering. And don’t trust that bank you have your second loan with. They have a terrible encryption on their server, and it’s easy to see your social security number. And watch out for the perv down the street.

Yes, I’m joking. I hope you helped the man whose wife is going through that agony. I am sure he is desperate.

Your user name is your actual name? Yes, I’d change that. Must have been scary!

One of the reasons why I use a web alias.
