The piece uses standard march form, which is a type of call and response:

Fanfare/introduction
First strain (repeated)
Second strain (repeated)
Trio/main theme (repeated)
Breakstrain/interlude
Trio
Breakstrain
Trio

This could be represented as IAABBCCDCDC (where “I” is the introduction, and is named separately because it does not repeat).

Thank you all! I am in a Music Appreciation class and I am not appreciating it! I have 13 songs to figure out form….my musical background consists of singing in the car and shower… :(

Put on the WP march and march around. In this particular case, form does follow function.

Same with the waltz. Have your Music Appreciation teacher twirl you a few times around the floor to the Blue Danube. (One, two three; one, two, three).

Well..I can Waltz myself I guess…it’s an online class. The one, two, three….one, two, three…would that be A-B-A…? I get the A-B-A confused, then there’s the Strophic…ugh…thanks
