May I have some help for history?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) November 3rd, 2013

I know this site isn’t for homework, but i’m really struggling right now. This question should be self explanatory in a sense, but I have no idea how to answer it. It’s a history project, and it’s sort of annoying me.

The question is: How did the Native Americans feel after the Civil War during reconstruction? We need 5 examples and explanations why. I know this should be easy and I can easily look it up, but I can’t find this answer anywhere, and I what I assume could be right, isn’t.

I’m not even in an AP class and we’ve had 17 history projects already, and it’s not even Christmas so it’s pretty insane and I’m
very stressed out.

Please, nobody come at my throat saying this isn’t a homework help sight, because i’m in need of help. Pretty please? Anything will help.

@blueberry_kid You are correct that this is not a homework site, but it doesn’t mean you can’t get a little help, and maybe even start a discussion.

By just Googling “native american civil war” I came up with at least five sites: one, two, three, four, and five.

They look like they might have some of the information you are looking for, or refer you to other sites.

BTW, What grade level are you in?

In addition to the links provided above:

Here is a short essay on Native Americans post-Civil War. I don’t know how good it is, but it might help.

Native American involvement in the war is discussed here and here.

Also check this out. There’s a lot of information there that should help you.

I’m wondering why you have a project on a topic that was not at least briefly covered in class or that cannot be found in your textbook.

This is a research assignment, which means you’re not going to find the “answer”. There isn’t “an answer”. There are many aboriginal American communities, and each has its own story. Some fought in the war. Some were enslaved. Some owned slaves. Some stayed as far away from “the white man” as possible. Some traded with them. Some got killed by Custer, and some killed Custer.

To me, this sounds like a fun assignment, but I’m a history nerd.

I’d probably look for five first-hand accounts of reconstruction-era aboriginal Americans. Since the Civil War is one of the most closely studied of the American historical periods, with literally new books being published every day, it shouldn’t be hard to find the information you need.

And for bonus help, I’ll give you one to get you started.

Red Cloud was the Chief of the Ogalala Sioux from 1868 to 1909

@Yetanotheruser I’m in 10th grade.

The reason I came to you guys for help was because I wanted answers that didn’t sound like they came straight from google. I did have the idea of how the native Americans felt during reconstruction, because of the reservations and colonel Custer, but I needed background. Why this isn’t in our text book, I can’t answer that.

Thanks for your help!

@blueberry_kid It seems to me that you showed some creativity in coming to the collective.
