Anyone care to discuss the Revenue Act of 1918 in light of the economy today?

Revenue Act of 1918

I found the chart particularly interesting.

I thought that special taxes were to pay for the war ,and where temporary.

They were, originally, but the idea of a tax on income had been around since the Civil War. It was the Sixteenth Amendment that…“allows the Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on the United States Census”. .
