If you drink a machine made espresso coffee first thing in the morning does it give you a kick-start or have a bad effect?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) March 23rd, 2015

Does it make you jittery, send you to the loo or nauseate you? Perhaps it is just a great start to your day. What happens to you?

Anything hot that I drink first thing in the morning makes me go to the bathroom. It’s for that reason that I have coffee or tea every morning. It’s part of my morning routine (get it done, take a shower, clean for the day and no dealing with going to the bathroom anywhere else but at home).

“Machine made” as opposed to what?

Are you referring to all coffee or just espresso? Espresso – and espresso beverages – generally have significantly less caffeine than standard brewed cup of coffee.

I start my morning with a couple of cups of coffee, and I do not feel any negative effects. It wipes a bit of the fog away. I eat breakfast after my coffee.

If caffeinated, then definitely jump start. In fact, I only drink caffeinated coffee on special occasions for that reason.

I’ve heard that the brain actually can’t register the caffeine when it first wakes up. Apparently exercise is a much more scientifically effective way to get that “jumpstart.” Although if you’re like me, trying to exercise when I’m still groggy is a pretty tall order.

I am honestly curious if “machine made” is a telling factor.

Espresso on its own directly into an empty morning stomach is a little too acidic for me, but a regular cup of coffee, sipped, is just right.

I brew a cup of espresso every morning, and drink it with my breakfast. It makes me much less jittery than the same amount of drip coffee. I try to avoid drip coffee whenever possible.

I also wonder what you mean by “machine made”. All the methods used to brew coffee are “machines”. My method is a stovetop espresso maker, so I’m not sure this meets your personal criteria.
