Does anyone have a home remedy for gout?

Asked by Adagio (14059points) April 24th, 2015

I have a very good friend who suffers from gout. This time round the medication he normally takes is not proving as effective as usual and he is feeling quite miserable. I’m wondering if there is anyone out there who also suffers from gout and has found a helpful remedy. My friend knows and does all the things that prevent gout but sometimes it is still a problem, like now.

Gout is caused by something you eat, I have a friend that cannot/will not eat certain things including shrimp.

Try celery seed extract for acute bouts of pain.

@Tropical_Willie He knows all about the dietary precautions but I will definitely tell him about the celery seed extract. Thank you : ^)

For many years I have heard that eating Sour Cherries can help to prevent and relieve gout pain due to the anthocyanins, the plant pigments found in them. Apparently they have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

He needs to see a MD to change up his meds if they’re not working properly.

@Kardamom thank you for that information, I shall pass it on to my friend.

@gorillapaws I spoke with my friend last night and there had been a marked improvement since the previous night but perhaps you are right. Thank you for your suggestion.
