Anyone made intermittent fasting a part of your lifestyle?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) July 9th, 2016

I have been reading up on intermittent fasting or IF
and many say it is good for your brain and body
in general. I would think your brain would need
all the “energy” it uses to run optimally and we
get that from food. Those of you that do IF let
me know what your opinions are and how it makes
you feel.

In my late teens and early 20s I fasted one day a week – from sunset on Tuesday night to sundown on Wednesday night. I fasted for religious reasons: a devotion-to-God thing. I spent most of the day on Wednesday at the church anyway, so it was easy to do.

I was in the best shape of my life then, but then again I was also 19…

I’ve considered taking up the practice again as a calorie-reducing mechanism, but without the whole Jesus thing it’s hard to convince myself to let myself go hungry on purpose.

I sleep in and sometimes miss meals.

When I was a child, we had to fast on Sunday morning before church. I was always shaky and dizzy by the time we ate brunch. I later discovered I have had diabetes most of my life.

I have a friend who has been doing IF for about 18 months. He eats dinner by six at night, then nothing until 10 a.m. He has lost weight and feels much more alert and focused.

I have heard that IF makes you feel alert and focused.
Why does this happen?

Seems like a terrible idea. I feel miserable on the days I fast before a colonoscopy.

Not by choice!

I don’t do it regularly, but every once in awhile, a few times a year, I’ll just go with water and juices for a day or two. I don’t believe it’s good to deplete your system completely of certain chemicals like potassium and sodium. They are water soluble and you can piss them away and zero out. It is important not to screw with the electrolyte balance that keeps your heart beating regularly (the sodium-potassium pump). Zeroing out carbs isn’t good either (I become a real prick when this happens), so I go with vegetable and fruit juices. Gives my digestive tract a break. I feel more energetic afterwards. It’s a good thing to do every once in awhile, I think. Cleans your system. Makes me feel lean and mean.

No. I am a eating machine. Every 4 hours, just about. Many times I get up in the night and eat so my stomach doesn’t start growling.

IF is a good idea to practice..i have been practising for last 6 months or so and it is showing good results. Not complete fasting but only fruits/ juices as mentioned by someone. It has resulted in reducing body fat ( or belly to be precise) and weight loss to some extent.

Taking break from anything is great and its much greater if you can contemplate and experience those different states as this will help you to evolve and can gives you control in your life.

what about taking a break from negative traits like anger, frustration, jealousy and even take a holiday from being friendly ;resourceful and loving or kind. Yeah..

Ps:the idea is to experience life potential to maximum :conciously and fully.
