What are your thoughts on all of the recent Wikileaks?

Asked by SquirrelEStuff (10007points) October 14th, 2016 from iPhone

Wikileaks has been releasing a bunch of emails recently that seem to be pulling back the curtain on our corrupt system and politicians.
What are your thoughts on what has been released?

Me think Assange is showing Clinton that he can still bite, and that she should leave him alone once elected.

^^ I actually checked that up, since one of my life goals is to make better risotto. Good advice from Podesta here.

As I posed on twitter the other day, I think Assange and Trump have some kind of sexual predator bro thing going on.

olivier5's avatar

I doubt the rape allegations against Assange have any basis. Innocent until proven guilty, right?

I think that if there had been anything really amazing, it would have been released ages ago. When wikileaks first appeared, they showed off the stuff they thought was barn-burning. Not too much exciting left there by the looks of it.

Assange needs to get out and deal with the charges against him.

I don’t see that but they do share a sponsor in the Kremlin.

Wikileaks started out as a good thing, but I think four years’ isolation in the Ecuadorian embassy is making Assange’s brain go soft.

@BellaB Assange needs to get out and deal with the charges against him.

Last time I checked, there were no charges against him.

I think Assange is as disappointed as we are in the choices available for the job of leader of the free world.

@SquirrelEStuff Off the top of my head it says to me that there is no such thing as privacy. It is an illusion.

BellaB's avatar

Well then @olivier5 , why isn’t he oot and aboot?

mostly rhetorical – he needs to be arrested to be charged

olivier5's avatar

I suppose he doesn’t want to end up in Guantanamo.

cazzie's avatar

Um yeah. The sexual assault charges are from a case in Sweden.

zenvelo's avatar

@olivier5 The US isn’t after Assange. It is Sweden, that is why he is holed up in a non-EU Embassy.

Really, I am surprised at how you seem to be defending him here. He is an annoying little self important shit disturber, full of bluster and press conferences with little dynamite to show for it.

olivier5's avatar

I reviewed the cases against him a few years back and concluded they looked fabricated. I could dig it up if anyone is interested. His theory is that the Swedes want to areign to hand him over to the US. Seems possible to me, though i admit it seems a bit far fetched.

I’m here for the risotto tips.

I agree with @olivier. If you read the circumstances details surrounding the warrants in Sweden and take into account the Assange has never had even a rumour of sex crimes behind him, and the timing of the warrants—which was right after the US State Department publicly stated that the would very much “like to talk to Mr. Assange” after the tens of thousands of DOD and Iraq War leaks, it looks like a typical SAPO “honey pot” set up, to use the tradecraft term. Sex offenders do not convert overnight and Assange has not even a hint of sexual aggression in his history.

The two women have since rescinded their accusations as well. But he is holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London because the British authorities haven’t rescinded their warrant based upon the Swedish warrant. I wish we had more international cooperation like that in other things.

I think they prove just how fucking horrible the Democratic Party has become. You can see how Hillary and her crew are actively working to fuck up and corrupt the political process, steering the Democratic Party further right. For example look at how they real liberals like Tulsi Gabbard and drive them out. They’re gaming the primaries, trying to distract, mislead and avoid the base. They speak about labor voters as if they’re a problem instead of being excited to work for the average American middle-class.

@zenvelo Assange is basically under de facto house arrest so we can know the truth about what’s happening in our political system. The people who you seem to be defending are basically traitors to the American people. Assange should get a medal.

^^Multiple GAs.

Nobody seems to remember that the Democratic Party didn’t owe Bernie any support or loyalty at all. He’s been an Independent his entire career. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, but they weren’t attacking one of their own, like it is always portrayed. I don’t like the two party system because it disenfranchises the guys, like Bernie. But don’t act like the Dems owed Bernie an equal footing to Hillary who has paid and paid and fund-raised for the club for decades.

cazzie's avatar

BTW, it is also a reason why the GOP pulls away from Trump. He was asked to fund raise for the party and was given a list of people to call and ask for donations. He gave up after two phone calls. He has never fund raised for the party like actual candidates do.

olivier5's avatar

^^ You guys have the best democracy money can buy.

Joke aside, the Dems DID owe Bernie and their electorate a fair primary process. They failed to deliver on that.

cazzie's avatar

@olivier5 no…. money it what rules these groups…... saying anything else is disingenuous.

olivier5's avatar

These “groups” happen to rule the US, mind you.

gorillapaws's avatar

@cazzie Hillary may be a Democrat because she wears blue, but when it comes to the issues she’s a Republican in blue clothing. Publically she’s a Democrat, but her private positions are all Republican.

…And Bernie isn’t some outsider; he’s caucused with the Dems since the 90s. I’m sure that if FDR was asked who the real Democrat was between Clinton and Bernie, he’d probably point to Bernie and then throw an egg at Hillary. If Berie doesn’t qualify as a Democrat then it says more about how far to the right the party has shifted, than anything.

Also it’s not like the fundraising is some altruistic thing that Hillary is doing, it’s being done as leverage to steer the party and punish those who don’t go along with pro-corporate policy that the guys writing checks to her and Bill want. The game is rigged, and the worst part is not only are Hillary and her pals not trying to fix it, they’re the ones intentionally making it worse. They’re trying to marginalize those who are trying to fix the system. She really could kill the progressive movement in this country for over a decade, and there is a very good chance that 8 more years without serious changes to Wall Street regulations is going to lead to another financial meltdown.

cazzie's avatar

@gorillapaws missing the point entirely

@cazzie Sorry, sometimes I’m a little slow. Please explain what I’m missing.

Date set for Assange to face questions over alleged rape
AP
Nov 7, 2016

Swedish prosecutors say that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will be interviewed on Nov. 14 at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London [...]

The Prosecution Authority says that Ecuador has granted Sweden’s request for legal assistance in questioning Assange over a rape allegation stemming from a visit to the Scandinavian country in 2010.

The agency said Monday that a Swedish assistant prosecutor and police investigator will be allowed to be present at the interview, conducted by an Ecuadorian prosecutor and that a DNA sample will be taken from Assange if he consents.

The 45-year-old Australian computer hacker has denied the accusation, and refused to meet prosecutors in Sweden fearing extradition to the United States to face espionage charges if he leaves the embassy.
