Can I recommend a play for my US and UK jellies?

Asked by Stinley (11525points) October 17th, 2016

I went to the theatre on Saturday and saw the most amazing play. It’s called 946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips and is based on the Michael Morpurgo story, The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips set during WWII. It’s brilliant, fan-bloomin’-tastic actually. There is a live band playing jazzy 1940s music but the band members also play parts in the play. One minute they are playing the bass guitar, next minute they are playing the vicar. There are GI soldiers, a French school teacher, a 12-year-old girl, evacuees, a cat (amazing puppetry). Such a talented cast who excel in acting, singing, dancing, music. The reason I thought I should tell you about it is that it is touring here in the UK and in the USA.

What do you think? Would you like to see it? What kind of shows do you like to see, if this doesn’t appeal?

I’ve pretty much given up on theatre but give me something with marionettes and I’ll be there. I’m an enormous fan of Ronnie Burkett and am following the creation of his newest show intently.

Wow, it will be at Berkeley Rep in a couple months! Thanks for the tip!

I love love love live theater, with the exception of giant blockbuster shows (the crowds, the hype, the whole “if you didn’t love it you’re stupid” attitude). I subscribe to a couple of smaller theaters near me, and I am not so far away that going into NYC for a play is difficult.
Thanks for the recommendation!

Will definitely look out for it – maybe even in Berkeley! Thanks for the tip! A friend saw ” The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime ”. In London and came back raving so I saw it in NYC.

It sounds like my type of show. I’ll be on the look out for it as well.

Def my kind of show! However, I don’t see that it’s coming to Chicago. And I’ve already got a list of shows coming that I want to see but don’t have the cash flow for :/
