It’s your instructor’s terminology.

Try Googling “Nuclear Triad”

Nuclear triad. Don’t feel bad about not knowing what it is. Trump didn’t when asked about in one of the debates.
It refers to the ability to launch nuclear missiles from land based installations, jets, and submarines.

I believe you are talking about the nuclear triad. This is a system that guarantees our response if attacked. It consists of manned bombers, hardened silos for ICBMs and the most important submarine launched ballistic missiles. We won the cold war by bankrupting Russia but in the late sixties the Russians were only concerned about our submarines and where they were. Everyday was the same answer, “We don’t know.” Russia understood that even if they took out our bombers and land based missiles they would never be safe. And even scarier is we wouldn’t respond right away. Can you imagine living in Moscow, Vladivostok etc. knowing you were going to be hit but not knowing when and also knowing there was nothing you could do about it. Our submarines have always been on the cutting edge of stealth. Long before the word was used publicly for aircarft. That threat backed down Russia until the cold war ended.
