Should I stock up on aloe before I do the Tony Robbins fire walk?

Asked by josie (30934points) August 3rd, 2017

I was recently in San Diego for a ceremony and saw a promo for a Tony Robbins “event”. Me and some of my buds decided to sign up and check it out. Part of the event is the firewalk
Should I have some aloe ready at the other end?

Nope. You will either not need it at all, or it will be wholly inadequate.

If you feel you need the aloe for backup, you do not have the complete confidence required.

I read two years ago that several people were taken to the hospital by ambulance with severely burned feet after doing the fire walk. Instead of aloe I’d have zylocaine or some very strong anesthetic and antibiotics with me. Let us know how it works out and good luck. To each his own.

If it’s set up properly, as I’m sure a scumbag like TR will do, lest he hurt his image, you should be fine. The potential is always there to burn yourself, especially if you are too confident and walk too slowly, but if you do it like they show you and they have prepared it properly, you shouldn’t get anything worse than minor blistering, and that’s only if you’re soft footed.

So maybe aloe isn’t a terrible idea.

What makes TR a scumbag. I don’t know one way or the other, but that is a pretty strong condemnation, so just curious. He seems to be just another salesman, like Dale Carnegie or others.

@josie It’s a word I like, and we’re in social.

He’s a huckster, a seller of false hope. Tricks like fire walks just show how he’s willing to misrepresent reality to sell products and courses. He’s basically a secular faith healer.

He sells a story that success can come from the virtues he preaches, when his success comes from a carefully crafted cult of personality. Its like if Tom Brady sold a books and courses about “how to be a four time super bowl MVP” His success necessarily excludes the vast majority of his followers from achieving the same kind.

I get it. We’ll do the fire walk anyway. Just so we can talk about it over beers later.
