Would a million dollars worth of gasoline be free, since the digital read-ot flps to all zeros?

Asked by Yellowdog (12216points) July 30th, 2018

Gas pump read-outs go to $999,999.99. One penny more and you are at $1,000,000.00

But since the read-out only displays eight digits, only 000,000.00 would be shown, the same as when it starts.

So, does that mean I would only pay $ 000,000.00 for a million dollars worth of gasoline?

The displays here rollover at $999.99 . But I don’t know of a car with a 300 gallon tank.

But just because the display rolls over, you don’t know what the computer in the office is recording.

The pump, when read, may say one thing, but the books (ledgers) say something else.

Yes, of course it would be free, @Yellowdog – what a question.

Common sense fails again.

Besides the $ read out (total $ sold since new) on the pump, there is another readout for gallons (total gallons dispensed since new), so that would trip up the free gas hand out. You’d know that if you ever worked at a gas station, if you haven’t.

Well, you can certainly dispute the PRICE.
