How is your Thanksgiving shaping up?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46830points) November 22nd, 2018

Plans have been shifting. Today, Thanksgiving day, it is just Rick and me. I’m going to make Red Lobster cheddar biscuits, turkey gravy from the necks, and mashed potatoes. If Rick wants some sort of meat he’ll have to come up with it! Potatoes and biscuits are all I need.
We’ll be having our Thanksgiving day on Saturday at my son’s house.

My parents are visiting. We decided to eat early. I’m happy to say we cooked for only an hour (we bought sliced turkey already made, and then cooked all the sides ourselves).

The menu was sliced turkey, gravy, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, fried polenta, cranberry mold, and also hot chicken wings for my husband, because he doesn’t really like the turkey much. Store bought pecan pie for dessert.

Much better than I was expecting. Had a lovely dinner with friends and their families even though I was missing my own.

Some of the English in-laws coming for brunch tomorrow.

My daughter ran away from home a few months ago, so it is just me, and it usually isn’t safe for me to cook.
A local restaurant serves thanksgiving dinners free every year. I found out they have volunteer drivers to deliver for people who could not get there.
I signed up, and they brought a pretty nice meal. Ham, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, mash taters and gravy, dinner roll, and pumpkin pie spice. I enjoyed it very much.
My daughter popped by last night.
We had a civil visit, and she took care of a couple chores for me.

@Patty_Melt I’m very sorry about your daughter but glad she came by at least.

Yes, I worry constantly. Last night was such a relief. She looked quite well. She was excited to tell me about some things going on with her theater groups.

It was pretty snazzy. Shared the day with a couple friends and my cousins. Twenty people total. Thirty-pound bird, spiral ham, bunch o’ sides, and enough homemade desserts to down a bull elephant.

There was good conversation, a game or two, and some football on the tube. Good stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you wonderful Jellies too.

The cheddar biscuits were pretty dang good. Over cooked by one minute though. But I have enough dough in the fridge to give it another go.
Never did get my mashed potatoes and gravy though. My plans were preempted.
