What (figurative) party have you been really, really late to?

Asked by Jeruba (55830points) April 2nd, 2019

I watched the first Star Wars movie ten years after it came out, when practically all of the U.S. had seen it long before. And I was around when Jaws was first in theaters (1975), but I never saw it until I rented the DVD last year.

Some of us are late bloomers or slow starters, and some just don’t bother to keep up with the latest whatever. What popular activities or cultural moments have you really lagged on?

Teva sandals. Everybody I knew had them and loved them, they were big from the late 80s through the early years of this century, at least among my friends.
About three years ago I tried them and now wear them from the first nice day to the last.

Titanic
Casablanca
Game Of Thrones (still on my way to that party)
Cartoon movies.

@rebbel, yeah, I miss a lot of popular culture references because I don’t do GOT. And Lordy, I missed an entire decade by not watching Seinfeld.

I don’t watch any TV at all, so I’m not even invited to the party.

I haven’t watched Inception yet. Or any new Avengers , Star Wars, or Star Trek, or Spiderman movies since 2010.

Game of Thrones. Haven’t watched it.

I watched the first Star Wars last November. I had otherwise never been interested. I enjoyed the three original movies. Probably won’t see any of the others, though.

I was late to wear joggers. I saw friends wearing them years ago and never seemed to think much of them. Now they’re practically all I wear.

And I was early to the frozen yogurt party, I just never liked it. :P

I’ve seen the first four seasons of GOT, but lost interest once the book material ran out. I may never see the later seasons.

Didn’t mean to imply that I was interested only in movies and TV shows. Those were just examples. “Popular activities or cultural moments” takes in a lot. Other examples:

Fashion. I wore my hair long for years and finally cut it off short just before people started growing their hair long.

Food. I’ve never yet tried tiramisu.

Furniture. We finally bought a new sofa and loveseat, and when the purchase was complete, the salesperson commented on my choice of fabric: “That’s so seventies,” she said. Not that I care, because I love it, but I had no idea.

Just watched the first episode of 30 Rock last night. Didn’t disappoint
