Is anyone else old enough to remember the Nairobi Trio?

I would have thought there would be more than one of their performances on youtube, but alas

Yes I’m old enough to remember them. As a matter of fact, I had already started going to school when they first appeared on the Ernie Kovac Show.I found more than one. Admittedly, a few are similar vids just from a different perspective. There might not be many clips because the recording medium from the 50’s didn’t hold up very well & didn’t last long enough to be copied & preserved. That plus they weren’t wildly popular at the time. My dad loved them & my Mom hated them. I found them to be mildly amusing at best.

They fascinated me when I was a kid. The tune never changed but the skits were all over the place.

Don’t you think the video borders on racism?

Not unless you’re willing to accept the stereotype of gorillas as stand ins for racial types. What are they doing which parallels popular stereotypes of racial behavior?

Those gorillas look a lot like humans in blackface.

It is a valid question and one that came up more than once when the skits were current. Now I feel kind of creepy. It brings up that definitively racist comparison of Michelle Obama as a monkey in a dress.
