Are you seeing the price of gas go up in your area?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23124points) February 24th, 2021

The fuel companies are blaming the weather in Texas, for the spike we are seeing up here.
Why must the consumer always pay because of deregulating things for the big guy?
By the way gas where we are has hit a $1.27 a liter and no signs of slowing down.

Yes, they are a bit higher lately.

Note, however, that here in the US, the price of gasoline is kept low through oil industry subsidies. These prices are actually still obscenely-low and really don’t reflect the real cost. What would a gallon of gas cost if it factored in the cost of global climate change?

The last three weeks. Some pumps are 25 cents more a gallon.

People being allowed to return to work after the Covid Quarantine has a lot to do with this. Remember when prices dropped when people were told to stay home?

Sure, they always do after a new president takes office. I know people say the president and elections have nothing to do with it, but it is a fairly consistent pattern that they go down several months before the election and start to go back up after the president is inaugurated. I still think the correlation possibly means something.

It makes sense that the deep freeze in Texas would affect gas prices. It also makes sense that people are traveling more and so demand is up. Everyone is coming to Florida. It feels that way anyway.

Republicans on FB are throwing tantrums and showing gas receipts from December vs. gas receipts from mid-February, and saying look, that bastard blah blah blah.

Yes, and it’s apparently been happening for several weeks now. Since I rarely drive now, I am no longer acutely aware of gas prices. I haven’t put gas in either of my vehicles since some time after Halloween, and was surprised a couple of weeks ago when riding with the wife to the filling station to fuel up her Subaru that gas is now above $3 here. I hope you will be able to retire soon Squeek. I look back now and feel like an idiot for participating in the rat race beyond any necessity. It took covid to show me the waste of it.
